While they didn’t get off to the start they exactly wanted the Chile’s U20 side did manage to keep their slim chances of qualification for the U20 World Cup alive with a convincing 3-1 win over Colombia in torrential rain in Arequipa.
It looked as it wouldn’t be La Roja’s night early on as defender, Cristian Magaña put the ball in the back of his own net after only three minutes but goals to Felipe Gallegos and Ramsés Bustos saw them take a 2-1 lead into the half time break. Colombia weren’t without their own chances with Claudio Santis saving a penalty from Edwin Cardona in the 37th minute.
Early in the second half Bryan Carrasco put the game beyond doubt with his third goal of the tournament in the 49th minute. Conditions in Arequipa then deteiorated not long after as torrential rain hit the stadium and no more goals were added to the scoreline.
With Brazil defeating Ecuador later in the day the Chileans must now repeat the dose and hope that Colombia don’t defeat Argentina for them to now qualify for the U20 World Cup.
