After six rounds of the Apertura season La Serena remains the only side yet to register a win and leaves them at the foot of the table. At the other end of the table it is a three way tie with Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica and Unión La Calera only separated by goal difference.
La Serena remains winless after six rounds after going down 2-1 to O’Higgins on home territory in La Portada in the opening game of the round. It looked like las granates would pick up at least a point from the contest but a well taken free kick from Guillermo Suárez in the first minute of stoppage put paid to the fourth point of the season for the team from Coquimbo.
Fellow strugglers Iquique however did manage to get the monkey off their back as they picked up their first three points of the season with a 2-1 win over Ñublense in the best named stadium in the country, the Tierra de Campeones.
At the top of the table wins to Unión La Calera and Universidad de Chile and a draw for Universidad Católica means that all three teams are locked on thirteen points with only goal difference separating them. A 5-1 thrashing of Universidad de Concepción not only boosted the goal difference of La “U” but also saw them back on top of the table after a midweek loss. Unión La Calera maintain their good early season form with a 1-0 away from home at Cobreloa whilst los cruzados had to come from behind to draw with Wanderers at San Carlos ahead of their upcoming Copa Libertadores clash against Argentineans Vélez Sarsfield.
