Whilst their former president is fighting off some pretty damning allegations off the pitch, Unión La Calera is definitely doing the business on the pitch as another win means that it is only goal difference that separates them from top placed Universidad Católica. Meanwhile, Chile’s most popular club Colo Colo makes it two wins on the bounce.
First half goals to Bryan Rodríguez and Jonathan Domínguez saw Unión La Calera defeat Universidad de Concepción, a win that momentarily propelled them to top of the table after Universidad de Chile surprisingly crashed to a 2-0 defeat to Unión San Felipe at the Estadio Nacional. Their stay at the top of the table was only brief as 2-1 win for Universidad Católica over Palestino in the last match of the round saw them leap frog los cementeros into first place on goal difference.
Playing with renewed confidence, Colo Colo racked up their second consecutive win with a hard fought 2-1 win over Unión Española at the Estadio Santa Laura. Both played under duress with los hispanos only arriving back from their Copa Libertadores clash in Venezuela the night before the match whilst their opponents, who also had returned from Venezuela, played the last twenty minutes with only ten men after Ezequiel Miralles saw red in the 68th minute.
