Católica extend their lead at the top of the table

Top place is increasingly like it is Universidad Católica’s to lose after ten rounds of the Apertura season as they maintained their winning form with a convincing 2-1 win over Unión San Felipe on the weekend.

The win put los cruzados five points clear at the top of the table after their closest rivals before the beginning of the round Unión La Calera went down 3-1 to Unión Española with the highlight being a great individual goal by los hispanos’ Kevin Harbottle in the dying moments of the match. Whilst La Calera slipped up O’Higgins and Universidad de Chile maintained the pressure with wins over Universidad de Concepción and Wanderers respectively. O’Higgins’ win was thanks in part to the brilliant form of their goalkeeper, Luis Marin, who time and time again denied the goal bound efforts of their opponents.

In the lead up to their midweek visit to Santos, Colo Colo failed to capitalise on their numerous chances as they went down 2-1 to Audax Italiano. The loss now sees los albos in third last position on the table with only La Serena and Iquique below them on the table. Both those aforementioned teams failed to make any move from the foot of the table as they drew 0-0 in what was a must win match for both teams.
