Universidad Católica again increased its lead at the top of the table with a convincing win whilst both O’Higgins and Unión Española also put forward strong cases as to why they will be dangerous come the playoffs.
In the lead up to its mid-week Copa Libertadores clash against Gremio, los cruzados increased their lead at the top of the table to six points with 5-2 thrashing of Cobresal on home turf with goals courtesy of Lucas Pratto, Tomás Costa, Roberto Gutiérrez and a brace to Felipe Gutiérrez. Of those chasing the leaders it was both O’Higgins and Unión Española who put in impressive performances to stake the claims come playoffs time. O’Higgins defeated the faltering Unión La Calera 2-0 with goals from Guillermo Suárez and Boris Sagredo. It was a win that saw them leapfrog Universidad de Chile into second position on the table after La “U” were held to 0-0 draw by Palestino.
Following close on the heels of the Santiago giants is Unión Española who put five goals past Ñublense in Chillián with Martin Ligüera popping up with a brace. With their Copa Libertadores obligations now complete, Colo Colo are now chasing a spot in the playoffs and after a 1-0 defeat of Santiago Morning they are only one point behind Palestino who are currently in eighth position.
