La “U” leave it late to win superclásico

How did we lose that?

Two goals in the last three minutes saw Universidad de Chile take out the superclásico 2-1 over arch rivals Colo Colo in a result that severely dented los albos’ chances of making the playoffs.

Colo Colo took the lead in the 64th minute when Ezequiel Miralles was left unmarked to head home at a corner. With only three minutes of normal time left Luis Pavez brought down Charles Aránguiz in a clumsy challenge for a penalty which Gustavo Canales, who had only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes, calmly slotted home. Two minutes later Diego Rivarola wrote himself into La “U” folklore has he ghosted into the penalty area to head home the winner.

In other key results Universidad Católica consolidated its position at the top of the table with a 2-1 win away to Universidad de Concepción whilst Unión Española grabbed third place with a pulsating 4-3 win over lowly La Serena. The big shock of the round came when lowly Deportes Iquique ended the eight game undefeated run of O’Higgins on their home turf with a 1-0 win.
