Universidad Católica wrapped up first place and qualification for the Copa Sudamericana with a 2-2 draw in the clásico universitario against arch rivals Universidad de Chile. All the goals came in the first half with three of them coming in the first fifteen minutes in what was a frenetic opening to the match. Eduardo Vargas scored both goals for La “U” whilst Felipe Gutiérrez and Milovan Mirosevic got on the scoresheet for Católica.
In the round’s other clásico, Unión Española came from a goal down to defeat Audax Italiano 2-1 in the clásico colonias at the Estadio Bicentenario La Florida. Cristián Canuhé opened the scoring for the home side before goals to Leandro Delgado and Mario Aravena helped los hispanos secure third place on the table. For Audax the loss saw them slip out of a playoff position with Colo Colo taking their place with a 1-1 draw against Iquique.
Both Palestino and O’Higgins both secured their playoff positions with Palestino defeating Huachipato 1-0 whilst O’Higgins shared the points with Wanderers. Unión La Calera returned to the winners’ list with a 2-0 win over last placed Ñublense and in the process all but locked in a playoff spot along with Unión San Felipe who defeated Cobresal 2-1. It would have take some disastrous results in the final round for both these teams not to see playoff action in their return to the top flight of Chilean football.
