The first round of the Clausura season got underway in wintery conditions with snow playing a major role in a lot of the matches, with it even causing the suspension of the match between Colo Colo and Cobresal.
In the matches that did go ahead Apertura champions Universidad de Chile defeated La Serena 3-0 to continue in the form in which they finished off the last season. Their chief antagonists, Universidad Católica also started the season in fine form with a 4-1 demolition of Iquique. The round wasn’t without it’s controversy as Santiago Wanderers fans invaded the pitch in protest after Ñublense took the lead only moments after the sending off of Nicolás Diez. The referee had no choice but to suspend the match with a little over ten minutes remaining. Subsequently the ANFP have ruled that the 1-0 result will stand.
