Magallanes continued their fairy tale run to the final after defeating La Serena in their semi-final second leg whilst Universidad Católica finally got back on the winners’ list after defeating Universidad de Concepción in the first leg of their semi-final.
Magallanes reached their first ever Copa Chile final in their proud history after defeating La Serena 3-0 in the second leg of their semi-final playoff to win the tie 4-0 on aggregate. Goals to Claudio Latorre, Carlos Cisternas and Patricio Salas in the 61st, 78th and 83rd minutes respectively were enough for la academia to progress to final. Not helping matters for La Serena was the sending off of Mauricio Salazar who picked up his second yellow card in the 66th minute.
In the first leg of the second semi-final, Universidad Católica broke their five match losing streak with a 1-0 defeat of Universidad de Concepción Estadio Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo. The only goal of the game came courtesy of former Peñarol player Matías Mier in the 44th minute. The return leg will be played this coming Wednesday.
