Universidad Católica crashed out of the Copa Sudamericana at the Round of 16 stage after drawing 1-all away to Vélez Sarsfield.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, los cruzados got the start they wanted as Gonzalo Sepúlveda opened the scoring on thirty minutes with a fierce shot from the edge of the area. The goal was a just reward for the enterprise shown by the visitors who in recent weeks seemed to have found the mojo that had gone missing of late. Try as they might Católica couldn’t get the necessary second goal to make the tie interesting and when Fernando Ortiz equalised for the home side in the 77th minute the tie was well and truly put to bed.
