As expected Universidad de Chile progressed to the quarter finals of Copa Sudamericana after defeating Brazilian side Flamengo 1-0 in front of their home fans to take the tie 5-0 on aggregate.
With the tie all but over following los azules’ 4-0 demolition in Brazil in the first leg only a miracle would have seen Flamengo progress to the quarter-finals and when Marcelo Díaz scored a screamer of a goal in the 22nd minute the tie was well and truly over. It also didn’t seem that the Brazilian side were intent on making a game of it with big names Ronaldinho and Thiago Neves sitting out the game and rare starts given to Chilean Claudio Maldonaldo and Gonzalo Fierro. With Flamengo failing to score it meant that now Universidad de Chile had managed to keep a clean sheet in all six of its Copa Sudamericana clashes.
Waiting for La U in the quarter finals will be Argentinean side Arsenal de Sarandí.
