Universidad de Chile’s good run in the Copa Sudamericana continued with a 2-1 win away to Argentina’s Arsenal de Sarandí in the first leg of their quarter-final clash. The win was also the club’s first ever win in Argentina in continental competitions.
Goals to Eduardo Vargas and Gustavo Canales in the 45th and 81st minutes respectively were enough for los azules to grab the advantage going into the second leg despite the fact that they weren’t their usual fluid self. Sandwiched inbetween those two goals was a goal for Arsenal’s Mauro Obolo in the 47th minute which brought to an end La U’s run of 544 minutes without conceding a goal in the Copa.
The return leg is played on the 17th November.
