Campeonato de Apertura 2012: Round 1 fixtures

It may have been a little under a month since Universidad de Chile lifted the 2011 Clausura trophy but the 2012 Apertura season kicks off this weekend with some enticing matches including a replay of that aforementioned 2011 Clausura final and a clásico.

The round gets underway on Friday night with newly promoted Antofagasta travelling down south to take on O’Higgins whilst fellow promoted side, Rangers de Talca will host La Serena in the weekend’s second match on Saturday. Saturday also sees Palestino host Universidad Católica at the Estadio Nacional and Huachipato host Santiago Wanderers, who at the end of last year survived a relegation/promotion playoff.

Sunday sees Colo Colo host Iquique in the Estadio Monumental whilst Unión La Calera take on Universidad de Concepción and Cobresal host Unión San Felipe. Sunday also sees the first clásico of the season as Audax Italiano host Unión Española in the clásico colonias. The round doesn’t comes officially to a conclusion until Tuesday 28th February with a replay of the Clausura final as Universidad de Chile host Cobreloa at the Estadio Santa Laura.
