Universidad de Chile’s 2012 Copa Libertadores campaign got off to an unspectacular start as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Colombian side, Atlético Nacional de Medellin
The 2011 Copa Sudamericana champions had a match they would rather forget as they were dominated by their Colombian opponents for much of the ninety minutes. Atlético Nacional opened the scoring in the 28th minute as Juan David Valencia capitalised on some poor defending at a corner to slot home past an unsighted Jhonny Herrera. The home side put the game beyond doubt in the 80th minute with a swift counter attack straight from a La U attempt on goal that was nicely finished by Dorlan Pabón.
Universidad de Chile will have a chance to redeem themselves next Wednesday as they host Argentinean side, Godoy Cruz in the Estadio Nacional.
