Wanderers surprise leaders after four rounds

Santiago Wanderers are the surprise leaders of the competition after four rounds after their third win of the season leaves them one point clear of Colo Colo.

Unión San Felipe picked up their first win of the season to kick off the weekend’s fixtures with a shock 3-1 victory over Unión Española in front of their home fans. Goals to Claudio Latorre (2) and Sergio Núñez cancelled out Sebastian Jaime’s effort for the visitors. The loss is the second in a row for los hispanos who slipped from the top of the table to seventh after the defeat.

Saturday saw five matches take place with pick being table-toppers Santiago Wanderers 4-2 win over Audax Italiano with Sebastian Ubilla picking up a brace for the home side. The loss for Audax, who are yet to pick up a win this season and sit on the bottom of the table, resulted in the resignation of their manager Omar Labruna. Two spots and two points behind Wanderers in third place on the table are Universidad de Chile who picked up their second win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Palestino with Junior Fernández scoring against his old side.

Earlier in the day Iquique grabbed their first of the season with a 2-0 win over Rangers whilst Universidad de Concepción and Cobresal shared the points in 1-all draw. Also sharing the points were O’Higgins and La Serena with both teams scoring two goals. The result means La Serena are second last and still without a win to their name.

Three games on Sunday brought the round to an end with wins for Cobreloa, Universidad Católica and Colo Colo. Cobreloa’s 4-2 win over Huachipato saw them move up to fourth on the table ahead of Universidad Católica on goal difference whilst Colo Colo’s 3-1 win over Unión La Calera in the last match of the round saw them move into second place behind Santiago Wanderers.
