Universidad Católica got off to a cracking start and were two goals to the good after twenty-six minutes with both goals coming from Felipe Gutiérrez. The first came on the 20th minute mark as the Junior defenders failed to deal with a Nicolás Trecco free kick and Gutiérrez was first to react. His second came six minutes later as he curled a shot in from an extremely tight angle to give his team a two goal advantage.
After dominating much of the first half it was a different case in the second half as Junior pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute as the home side firstly failed to deal with a long throw before ‘keeper Christopher Toselli failed to deal with a shot from Vladimir Hernández that was hit straight at him. Nine minutes later the visitors levelled things up as Héctor Quiñonez latched on a long ball and lashed it into the top corner from a tight angle. Try as they might the home side couldn’t find the all important winner and the match ended 2-all.
The result leaves Universidad Católica in second position in Group 3 although they are four points behind group leaders Unión Española and only one point ahead of both Junior and Bolivar.
