Campeonato de Apertura 2012: Round 9 fixtures

The ninth round signifies the commencement of the second half of the Apertura season with teams now looking to cement their playoff positions. Key matches this weekend include Universidad Católica taking on Iquique and Unión Española hosting La Serena.

Unión San Felipe have a tough task in the opening match of the ninth round of the Apertura season on Friday night as they take on league leaders Universidad de Chile, who are ominously are on a four match winning streak. Also playing on Friday night are Universidad de Concepción and Santiago Wanderers, with los penguinos looking to bounce back from the last up loss to La Serena.

The aforementioned La Serena themselves travel to the Estadio Santa Laura to take on Unión Española in Saturday’s first match. Following that match, O’Higgins will be looking to keep in touch with La U as they take on Unión La Calera in front of their home fans. The day’s other two matches sees fourth placed Universidad Católica host sixth place Iquique whilst second from bottom Rangers will have a tough task as they host the high flying Huachipato.

There are three matches taking place on Sunday with the first being a clash between northern rivals Antofagasta and Cobreloa, with the latter looking to break a four match winless streak. Winless and bottom placed Cobresal take on a recently resurgent Audax Italiano in the day’s second match whilst the round is brought to its conclusion in Santiago as Colo Colo host Palestino.
