Universidad Católica’s chances of qualifying for the next stage of the Copa Libertadores are in the hands of their rivals after they crashed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Junior de Baranquilla in their fifth group stage match.
It was a fairly even opening stanza it was the home side that looked the more likely to opening the scoring as the Católica front three looking increasingly isolated. And it was on the stroke of half time that Junior had the opening goal as Iván Vélez poked home past Christopher Toselli.
Universidad Católica looked a much improved side after the break as first Roberto Ovelar put his shot wide in the 64th minute before Daud Gazale saw a header come off the crossbar eleven minutes later. But as the visitors pushed for an equaliser they became more and more exposed at the back and were caught out first in the 85th minute by Luis Páez and then Vladimir Hernández put the final nail in the coffin in the 90th minute.
