Universidad de Chile topped their group in the Copa Libertadores after defeating Atlético Nacional 2-1 in their final group game of the campaign.
With both teams going into the match having already qualified for the next stage of the tournament and vying for the all-important top spot this match had plenty riding on it and it was the home side who kicked off the scoring in only the tenth minute courtesy of Matías Rodríguez, who fired home from the edge of the area. Much of the remainder of the half was a stalemate with neither team creating that many scoring opportunities.
Early in the second half La U had two chances to double their advantage but Nacional goalkeeper Gastón Pezzuti was up to the task, denying firstly Angelo Henríquez and then Felipe Gallegos. In the 63rd minute Nacional grabbed the equaliser via a spectacular strike from Dorlan Pabón from the edge of the area. However it wasn’t long before the home side had the advantage yet again as Osvaldo González made the most of some poor marking to head home a long range free kick and that is how the match finished.
