Perfect 10 for La U

In the week leading up to the fourteenth round of the Apertura season the superclásico dominated the headlines, come Sunday it was Universidad de Chile who dominated the match with a 5-0 humilation of their fiercest rivals to make it ten wins in a row. Meanwhile those teams that are following La U also picked up important wins to maintain some semblance of a chase.

Cobreloa made it two wins in a row and moved to tenth position on the table with a 3-0 win over Unión San Felipe to open proceedings in the fourteenth round of the Apertura season. Cobreloa’s goals came courtesy of an Sebastián Pávez  own goal and goals for Sebastián Roco and Cristián Suárez.

On Saturday Unión Española prepared for its Round of 16 clash against Boca Juniors with a 4-1 win over Universidad de Concepción in the day’s opening match. Following that Iquique continued its brilliant run this season with a 1-0 in over Palestino, a win that sees them three points clear in third position on the table. Ahead of Iquique on the table is O’Higgins who picked up a 1-0 victory Santiago Wanderers to remain five points ahead of the northerners. The day also saw Cobresal pick up three points for the first time since the end of March with a 1-0 victory over Rangers whilst La Serena defeated Antofagasta 4-1. The day’s other match saw Huachipato and Universidad Católica share the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

On Sunday the round’s and the season’s most talked about match took place as Universidad de Chile humilated Colo Colo 5-0 to make it ten wins in a row. All La U’s goals came after Mauro Olivi was given an early shower for picking up his second yellow card in the 42nd minute. Getting on the scoresheet for los azules were Matías Rodríguez with a brace and singles to Marcelo Díaz, Igor Lichnovsky and Ángelo Henríquez. The round was brought to an end with a 1-1 draw between Unión La Calera and Audax Italiano.

    Vamos La U. Keep up the good work, Chilean football is really exciting. I have one question though. Why there aren’t video’s from all the weekend action on youtube? Is there any kind of agreement with CDF…Cheers again 🙂

    I must say keep up the good work. Chilean football is really something, quick, passionate and exciting. The only problem is that we can’t find many video’s on youtube with all wekends action or copa chile. Is there any sort of aggrement with CDF and youtube? Keep up the good work 🙂

    Thanks for your kind words. As for there being very little YouTube footage of Chilean it appears CDF is pretty strict on what appears and quite often pulls videos down. They did have their own channel for a while but stopped updating it with videos. It’s extremely frustrating to say the least.
