Cobresal and Palestino are the surprise early season leaders after three rounds of the Clausura season with both teams remaining undefeated so far on seven points. Following close behind is Universidad Católica on six points after they made it two wins in a row on the weekend.
In the round’s opening match Antofagasta picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Universidad de Concepción 2-0 in the Estadio Collao with Daniel Arismendi scoring both goals.
Saturday also saw Unión Española pick up their first win of the Clausura and gain some revenge for their Apertura semi-final loss as they defeated O’Higgins 3-1 in the Estadio El Teniente, and in the process ensuring la celeste remain winless so far this season. Meanwhile Palestino continued its good start to the season as a Diego Chaves goal saw them defeat Unión La Calera 1-0. Completing the trifecta of wins for the three teams that play in the clásico de colonias was Audax Italiano who defeated Cobreloa 2-1 in the north of the country. Universidad de Chile were also in action in the north as they were held to a rare 0-0 draw by the ever-improving Iquique.
In Saturday’s last two matches Santiago Wanderers and Rangers de Talca shared the spoils in a 2-all draw whilst La Serena was another team to pick up three points for the first time this season as they defeated Huachipato 2-1.
Sunday saw Cobresal go top of the table and maintain their push to get out of the relegation zone with a surprise 2-1 win over Colo Colo with a Pablo Contreras own goal giving los mineros the win. In the weekend’s final match Universidad Católica made it two wins in a row with a 1-0 win over the struggling Unión San Felipe with a goal from Michael Rios proving to be the difference.
