It’s a different looking table after four rounds of the Clausura season with Rangers de Talca, Audax Italiano and Cobresal equal on eight points at the summit. Rangers are top on goal difference after a shock 5-0 thrashing of Iquique in the games opening match. Following close behind are three teams on seven points in the form of Unión Española, Universidad Católica and Palestino.
In the opening match of the round Rangers de Talca defeated Iquique 5-0 with the northerners appearing to have one eye on their upcoming Copa Sudamericana clash during the week. Milton Caraglio was the hero for Rangers with a hat-trick.
In Saturday’s opening match a 90th minute goal to Antofagasta’s Javier Elizondo meant that his team shared the spoils with Universidad Católica. The next two matches saw two relegation threatened teams in action with Cobresal maintaining their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-all draw with Universidad de Concepción whilst Unión San Felipe remained rock bottom on both the Clausura and Annual tables as they went down 3-1 to Unión Española.
Another team in danger of relegation is Santiago Wanderers and their cause wasn’t helped by a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Audax Italiano, who moved to second on the table after their win. The day’s action was brought to an end in Talcahuano as Cobreloa picked up their first of the season with a 1-0 victory over their hosts, Huachipato.
Sunday saw another late goal deny one of the big three a victory as a 92nd minute goal to Leandro Banegas saw Unión La Calera grab a 1-all draw against Colo Colo, who had gone ahead in the 35th minute courtesy of Carlos Muñoz. The round’s action concluded with O’Higgins followed up their draw in the Copa Sudamericana by bringing up their first win of the season as they defeated La Serena 2-1.
