O’Higgins crashed out of the Copa Sudamericana after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño in Asuncion saw them lose 7-3 on aggregate.
With the tie evenly balanced after the 3-all draw in the first it was the Paraguayans who opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute as Jonathan Fabbro, who also scored in the first leg, shook off his marker to fire past O’Higgins goalkeeper Luis Marín from the edge of the area. Sixty seconds later Cerro Porteño had doubled their advantage courtesy of Fidencio Oviedo who was on the receiving of a Hernan Rodrigo Lopez assist after O’Higgins’ Paraguayan midfielder Juan Rodrigo Rojas was dispossessed in the midfield.
It got worse for O’Higgins in the second half as first Nelson Saavedra saw red in the 63rd minute before Cerro Porteño made the most of their man advantage with two more goals to Santiago Salcedo and Alejandro Da Silva in the 74th and 89th minutes respectively.
