We are almost at the halfway point of the Clausura season and with most of the competition separated by only a few points wins will be crucial this weekend for many teams as they look to grab an advantage. Highlights include the Unión Española-Universidad de Chile and O’Higgins-Iquique clashes on Saturday whilst in terms of Primera Division survival the match between Santiago Wanderers and Unión San Felipe will be crucial.
Universidad de Concepción will be looking for their first win of the season when they host La Serena in the opening match of the round. La Serena for their part have only one win on the board so the match is vitally important for both teams.
The early kick off on Saturday sees Unión Española take on the undefeated Universidad de Chile, who are in the middle of the Recopa Sudamericana tie with Santos, so will be probably looking to rest a number of players. Following that match Cobresal will be looking to arrest a two match losing streak when they host Palestino whilst Colo Colo looking to break an six match run where they haven’t picked up a win. Both O’Higgins and Iquique have been both eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana in recent weeks and they take on each other in the day’s next match. Saturday’s last match sees Unión San Felipe host Santiago Wanderers, who are now under the stewardship of Ivo Basay, in one of the early “six pointers” that will go a long way to determining if either team will stay in the Primera Division next year.
Sunday’s opening match sees Antofagasta host Huachipato and with both teams amongst the congestion in the top of the table a win would give either team a distinct advantage. In the day’s next match Rangers will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season last weekend and maintain their spot at the top of the table when they take on Audax Italiano. Bringing the round to an end will be Universidad Católica who will be looking to maintain the pressure on Rangers when they host the lowly Unión La Calera.
