Cobreloa drew 0-0 with Ecuadorian side Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana second round match despite having a man advantage for the last twenty minutes of the game.
Despite the score line it wasn’t a match without its dramas as firstly the match was delayed by fiteenteen minutes when the stadium lights went out after only fifteen minutes had passed on the clock. When play resumed Barcelona had the chance to grab an important goal on the road in the 28th minute after Narciso Mina was brought down in the area by Sebastián Roco. Fortunately for Cobreloa he put the resultant penalty wide of the mark. In the 69th minute Barcelona were reduced to ten men as Luis Caicedo received a second yellow card for a rather crude challenge. Despite the man advantage Cobreloa were unable to find the back of the net and will be looking to win the tie on the road when the two teams meet again on September 19 in Guayaquil.
