We’ve crossed the halfway mark of the season now and this occasion is marked by our self-proclaimed “Super Saturday”where six of the round’s nine matches take place. The pick of the action is most definitely the clash between Iquique and Universidad Católica.
The action in Round nine kicks off on Friday night with Audax Italiano hosting Cobresal. Both teams will be looking to arrest a run of poor form with both of them losing their last three matches. Making it even harder for Cobresal will be the fact that they will be without manager Oscar del Solar after he was handed a four match ban for criticising the referees after his side’s 2-1 loss to Universidad de Chile earlier in the campaign.
Saturday sees six matches take place with last place Santiago Wanderers hosting second last placed Universidad de Concepción in the opening match. Universidad de Concepción picked up their first win of the season last start whilst Wanderers are the only team in the competition yet to pick up three points. Next up sees one of the matches of the round as Iquique taking on Universidad Católica whilst in the north of the country there is a derby of sorts between Cobreloa and Antofagasta.
Top of the table Rangers will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they travel to Talcahuano to take on Huachipato in the day’s next match whilst at the same time Universidad de Chile host relegation threatened Unión San Felipe. The day’s action comes to an end in the north of the country as La Serena look to rise up the table as they play host to Unión Española.
Sunday sees Unión La Calera host O’Higgins and the round is brought to an end in the Estadio Nacional as Palestino host Colo Colo.
