Still nothing separates the top two

After ten rounds still nothing separates Rangers de Talca and Universidad de Chile after the two teams shared the spoils in a two all draw courtesy of a late La U goal. Meanwhile Colo Colo continued their recent run of good form as they made it three wins on the trot and Universidad Católica also kept in touch with the leaders with a win.

Whilst most Chileans were heading off on holidays to celebrate fiestas patrias on Friday night, Universidad Católica and Audax Italiano kicked off the festivities that were round ten of the Clausura season. And it was los cruzados who had reason to celebrate as a 93rd minute strike from Nicolás Trecco saw them grab a 1-nil victory and all three points.

Saturday’s opening match saw first play second as Rangers de Talca hosted Universidad de Chile and like Friday night’s match there was another late goal as Luciano Civelli’s 91st minute saw the two teams share the spoils in a 2-all draw. Earlier Gustavo Lorenzetti had opened the scoring before goals to David Llanos and Milton Caraglio put the home the side ahead.

Iquique moved into third position in the table in the day’s next match after they defeated Universidad de Concepción by a solitary goal. At the same time Cobresal defeated Santiago Wanderers 2-1 in the battle of the relegation threatened. Both teams are still in the automatic relegation spots but it is the northerners who look most likely to get out of  trouble despite being last on the annual table. Whilst clásico del cobre rivals Cobresal were picking up a win the same couldn’t be said for Cobreloa as they lost 1-nil to O’Higgins with a ninth minute goal to Richard Blanco proving to be the difference. The day’s proceedings were brought to an end in San Felipe as Unión San Felipe moved off the bottom of the relegation table with a 3-nil defeat of La Serena.

Sunday’s opening match saw Palestino make a successful trip to the north of the country as an 88th minute goal to Diego Chaves saw them defeat Antofagasta 1-nil. Next up Colo Colo made it three consecutive wins and also three consecutive matches in which they have scored three goals as they defeated Huachipato 3-0 in the Estadio Monumental. The goals came courtesy of Gonzalo Fierro, Felipe Flores and Mauro Olivi. The round was brought to an end in the Estadio Santa Laura as Unión Española and Unión La Calera shared the spoils in a scoreless draw.
