It is a three way tie at the top of the Clausura table as Iquique joined Rangers and Universidad de Chile at the summit after they picked up a win whilst the other two had to settle for draws. The northerners sit in top position courtesy of the fact they have won more games. Meanwhile Colo Colo has moved into striking difference after it made it four wins in a row.
Iquique came from two goals down against La Serena to triumph 3-2 over their northern rivals in the round’s opening match with Victor Hugo Saravia’s 90th minute goal grabbing all three points for the visitors.
Palestino made it two wins a row in Saturday’s opening match as a solitary Diego Chaves goal proved to be difference in their game against Universidad de Concepción. The result means Universidad de Concepción is stuck at the bottom of the table and only one point ahead of the automatic relegation spots. Sitting just above them on the Clausura table are Santiago Wanderers who almost snatched a surprise win over Universidad de Chile as they let slip a two goal lead to share the spoils in a 2-all draw. For La U they had a 91st Francisco Castro goal to thank for avoiding one of the upsets of the season.
In the day’s next two matches Antofagasta consolidated its position in the playoffs with a 2-1 win over Audax Italiano whilst Huachipato and Cobresal shared the spoils in a 1-all draw. The day’s last match saw another 1-all draw as Unión San Felipe and O’Higgins shared the spoils.
In Sunday’s opening game Rangers de Talca came from two goals down to draw 2-all with lowly Unión La Calera. In the day’s next match a 84th minute goal from Juan José Barros saw Cobreloa triumph in a seven goal thriller over Universidad Católica in the country’s north. In the round’s last match Colo Colo made it four wins in a row as they defeated Unión Española 3-0 courtesy of goals to Carlos Muñoz, Felipe Flores and Mauro Olivi.
