Chilean sides don’t tend to do all that well on the road in Buenos Aires but Universidad Católica would be very pleased with their 2-all draw with Independiente overnight, a result which has them well placed to make it to the semi-finals.
Universidad Católica opened the scoring in the third minute courtesy of Enzo Andía, who got to a Tomás Costa free kick before Independiente goalkeeper Hilario Navarro to head home. Independiente equalised on the stroke of half time also a from a free kick with Cristián Tula doing the damage for the home side. Eleven minutes after the break the home side took the lead after a Lucas Villafañez strike from the edge of the area took a deflection of a los cruzados defender and completely wrong footing goalkeeper Cristopher Toselli. However the visitors were to be outdone and got their equaliser in the 70th minute as Fernando Cordero brilliantly squared a hopefully long free kick for Nicolás Castillo to poke home.
The return leg will be played on the 8th of November.
