We have finally made it to the crucial part of the Clausura season with the quarter final action beginning in the middle of next week whilst the promotion playoffs kick off on Sunday.
Having failed at this stage last year to return to the Primera Division, Everton will be hoping for a change of fortune this year as they take on Universidad de Concepción. Everton, who were last in the Primera Division in 2010, come into the clash off the back of some reasonably good form, having only lost once in their seven matches.
Universidad de Concepción for their part have been in the Primera Division since 2003 and in the lead up to this match have had difficult matches against Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile. The first leg will take place on Sunday in Viña del Mar with the return leg in Concepción on the following Saturday.
In the other promotion playoff Barnechea will be looking to make it two make promotions in a row when they take on Cobresal. Barnechea, who were playing in the Tercera (third) Division only last year, have already missed out on promotion after losing to Ñublense in a playoff.
Cobresal, who like Universidad de Concepción have been in the Primera Divsion since 2003, come into the encounter of the back of a win against O’Higgins, a win that saw them avoid automatic relegation. The first leg will take place on Sunday in Santiago before both teams travel north to El Salvador the following Sunday for the return leg.

For those partaking in the playoffs to see who is crowned champion of the 2012 Clausura season action commences on Tuesday with Audax Italiano playing host to Colo Colo. Colo Colo, who finished the regular season on top of the table, will be feeling pretty confident after they defeated their opponents 5-1 in the last round of the regular season. The return leg will be played next Saturday in the Estadio Monumental.
Also playing on Tuesday are Huachipato and Palestino with the former playing host in the first leg. Huachipato go into the tie after losing 3-0 to Universidad de Chile whilst Palestino shared the spoils in a 1-all draw with the relegated La Serena. The return leg will be played next Saturday in the Estadio La Cisterna.
Wednesday sees Unión Española take on Universidad de Chile with los hispanos coming into the tie on the back of three consecutive wins whilst their opponents are looking to make it four domestic titles in a row. Los azules will be confident of progressing as they defeated their opponents 5-2 during the regular season. The return leg will be played in the Estadio Nacional on Sunday.
The final match up of the quarter finals sees two of the season’s surprise packets face each other as Rangers take on Iquique. The team from Talca lead the competition for a number of weeks during the season but a recent run of poor form which saw them win only one game in their last five has seen them drop to fifth on the table. Meanwhile Iquique, who have qualified for next year’s Copa Libertadores, have only won two of their last five so both team go into the encounter in not the greatest of form. The return leg will be next Sunday in the Estadio Tierra de Campeones.
