We are now down to four teams in the battle for the Clausura title and the semi-finals see Colo Colo take on Unión Española whilst in the south of the country Rangers de Talca face off against Huachipato.
Having seen off Audax Italiano in dramatic circumstances in the quarter-finals the next challenge facing Colo Colo is an Unión Española side full of confidence after seeing off Universidad de Chile. Both teams come into the clash in good form with los albos having three of their last four matches whilst their opponents, who at one stage looked like they would miss out on playoff action, are unbeaten in their last five matches winning four of them. The first leg takes place on Wednesday night in the Estadio Santa Laura with the return leg to be played on Sunday evening in the Estadio Monumental.
After defeating their higher ranked opponents in the quarter-finals Rangers de Talca and Huachipato meet in the other semi-final in what is very much a southern derby with both teams looking for the chance of obtaining some silverware. Huachipato for their part have only won the Primera Division title once in their sixty-five history whilst for Rangers whose history stretches back to 1902 their best performance has been as runner-up in 2002.
Up until their two wins against Iquique in the quarter-finals Rangers form in the latter part of the season had been patchy only winning one of their last five matches. In contrast Huachipato finished the season strongly picking up four wins in their last six regular season matches. The first leg will take place on Thursday in the Estadio CAP before both teams battle in out in the second leg in the Fiscal de Talca on Sunday.
