Copa Sudamericana 2012: São Paulo 0-0 U. Católica

Universidad Católica’s dream of making the Copa Sudamericana final came an end today as a nil all draw with São Paulo wasn’t enough for them to progress. Following a 1-all draw in the first leg the Brazilians progress on away goals.

In the first half the Universidad Católica goal was under siege and much like the first leg goalkeeper Cristopher Toselli was in fine form denying efforts from Luis Fabiano, Osvaldo and Jadson as well his opposite number Rogerio Ceni.

Knowing that they had to score to have any chance of making the final Universidad Católica showed more attacking intent in the second half but as per the first half São Paulo still created more of the scoring opportunities. Again Jadson and Luis Fabiano had their chances but were unable to find the back of the net.

The introduction of Fernando Meneses and Roberto Ovelar for los cruzados failed to break the deadlock although Nicolas Castillo had the best chance for the visitors in the second half. However it wasn’t to be for Universidad Católica as they looked to be the second successive Chilean side to make the Copa Sudamericana final.
