Whilst as an unashamed Unión Española fan I was initially ecstatic when la furia roja defeated Universidad de Chile in the quarter-finals of the Clausura season my next thought was that we may have very well just witnessed the end of an era in Chilean football. That loss combined with manager Jorge Sampaoli taking the vacant position in charge of the Chilean national team it will inevitably mean that the side that has dominated the local scene and captured the imagination of many outside the country will be a very different side come 2013. With that in mind we here at vivalarojamierda decided to ask a few people what their favourite memory was of Universidad de Chile in the past two years.
Huachipato claimed their second ever Primera Division title after defeating Unión Española in a dramatic penalty shoot out after their the second leg finished 3-1. With only minutes left on the clock Unión Española fans thought their team was about to pick up its seventh title before Manuel Villalobos popped up in the 89th minute to send the game to a penalty shoot out.
Unión Española took a big step towards claiming its seventh title after they defeated Huachipato 3-1 in the Estadio Santa Laura in the first leg of the final to determine who will be crowned 2012 Clausura champion.

Unión Española and Huachipato have progressed to the final of the Clausura season after defeating Colo Colo and Rangers de Talca respectively after the second legs of the semi-finals were played on Sunday.
